Amtrak provides twice daily passenger service between Quincy and Chicago seven days a week. Trains depart Quincy at 6:12am and 5:30pm and arrive in Chicago at 10:30am and 9:48pm. Trains depart Chicago at 8:00am and 5:55pm and return to Quincy at 12:15pm and 10:10pm. Whether it’s a shopping spree, a business meeting or QU students returning home, Amtrak makes it easy to spend the day or the weekend in Chicago.

Freight

As the “Q” in the original CB&Q, railroads have played a significant role in Quincy’s history. Today, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Norfolk Southern Railroads provide rail freight services to Adams County industries.

Burlington Junction Railway is an innovative and progressive short line terminal operator that began switching operations in Quincy in October 2003. The switch carrier connects with Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Norfolk Southern railroads. It also has operations in Burlington, W Burlington and Mt. Pleasant, IA. Burlington Junction has 7 miles of track in Quincy.

Full reload services are available with a load capacity of up to 286,000 lbs gross weight. In its first year of operation here, Burlington Junction switched out more than 13,000 rail cars, double the number handled by its predecessor in 2003. Burlington Junction does all local switching in Quincy and provides “on-demand” switch service.
