Bed Bath & Beyond to open Quincy store

Bed Bath & Beyond, a domestic merchandise retailer, will open a 20,000-squarefoot store in Quincy in early 2009, a spokesman for the company said.

Catherine Gentile, public relations manager for the New Jersey-based company, said this week the retailer plans to open a Quincy store next year. But she declined to say where the store will be located or who the owner/operator will be.

“I have an executed lease on my desk,” she said. “The other information we will get will come sporadically.”

Quincy Planner Chuck Bevelheimer said he could not provide a specific location for the store, but said it will likely be along east Broadway. He said it likely won’t be in the Prairie Trail shopping center because the spec building there has only 15,000 square feet available.

“But at that size (20,000 square feet), that’s a large enough chunk of land that they will need an acre of land, if not more, when you add in the parking,” Bevelheimer said. “It will be fairly large.”

Several leases are “pending” on the spec building near Buffalo Wild Wings, according to a spokesman for St. Louis-based Sansone Group, which is developing the shopping center in a joint venture with Chicago-based ORIX Real Estate Capital.

Bed Bath and Beyond features bed linens, bath accessories, window treatments, kitchen linens, cookware, dinnerware, glassware, lifestyle accessories, closet and storage items. It was founded in 1971.
