Purpose
The Facade Program provides financial assistance for the restoration of period architectural design details on commercial building facades in Quincy's Central Business District.

Loan/Grant Awards
50% of the project's cost will come from the property owner, 25% will be a grant to the owner, and the remaining 25% will take the form of a low-interest loan to be repaid to the program. The total grant and loan assistance is limited to $50,000 per project.

Eligible Projects
Commercial buildings within the area bounded by Front, Ninth, Vermont and York Street, and on State Street between Seventh and Ninth are eligible for financial assistance for facade improvements. Buildings on both sides of border streets are eligible for consideration. Project eligibility will be determined by the Facade Committee Commission. Preference will be given to structures of architectural or historical significance as determined by the Facade Committee. Properties lacking architectural or historical significance may be deemed eligible for the program if proposed changes will re-create a facade typical of the time period in which the building was constructed. The Facade Committee will determine building eligibility under the facade re-creation provisions. Structures built after 1940 are ineligible for assistance.

Improvements Eligible

Design Review
Project plans must be approved prior to the award of the loan/grant. Any work done before an award agreement is signed is ineligible for program assistance.

Financial Review
All applications will be reviewed by the Financial Committee. This committee consists of two local bankers, one attorney and one member of the Facade Committee. All financial information will be kept in strict confidence by the Financial Committee.
